Giovanni Faleg was an associate researcher in security and defence at CEPS Europe in the World Unit, and a consultant at the World Bank Group in governance and fragility (2014-present). He lives in Washington, DC.

Dr. Faleg has six years of experience in academic, policy-oriented research, and consultancy with governments and international organisations (EU, World Bank), including training and capacity building activities. His areas of expertise include European integration, European security (CSDP-NATO), EU foreign policy towards the Southern neighborhood, development assistance, in particular the nexus between security, humanitarian aid and development, transatlantic relations, Italy’s foreign and security policies. He is also an expert in peer-learning networks, communities of practice and knowledge sharing to achieve policy innovation and institutional reform. He is actively engaged in politics with the Italian Democratic Party (PD), as the chairman of the PD chapter in Washington DC.

He is author of the book The EU’s Common Security and Defence Policy: Learning Communities in International Organizations (Palgrave, 2016) and has been co-rapporteur of the Task Force More Union on European Defence, chaired by Javier Solana (CEPS, 2015).

Dr. Faleg holds a Ph.D. in European Studies from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2014). He also holds an M.A. from the University of Strasbourg (2008) and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (2009).
