Giovanni Faleg, CEPS Associate Research Fellow and consultant at the World Bank, has contributed an article to The American Interest, 27 March 2014. While acknowledging that the ancient Romans famously defeated the Carthaginians, Faleg argues that today’s Tunisia, the modern-day location of Carthage, may depend on Italy for its survival as a newly democratic state. In fact, he asserts that if Italy supports its ancient foe, the entire Maghreb region could actually benefit.
