Digitalisation and emerging technologies play a central role in the future of mobility. To tap this potential and boost growth and innovation, a mobility ‘data space’ is set to be developed over the next few years in the EU.[1] Timely solutions are necessary to overcome the multiple challenges in the field and ensure that such a data space can become reality. As technologies advance at a rapid pace, a secure framework for sharing and accessing data, with clear rights and data protection and liability rules can foster developments in the mobility field to the benefit of all stakeholders.

This study provides policy recommendations to the EU and national policymakers to ensure that the full potential of new mobility applications is tapped. It builds on the findings of this study, which identified the regulatory barriers and market deficiencies that have affected the development of connected and automated mobility solutions in the EU.

As part of the project “Big Data and B2B platforms: the next big opportunity for Europe”, this study was funded by the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) and the European Commission.
